Issue
You try to upload a bill manually in ZoneCapture. However, the upload fails. In some cases, you see the following error:
Unexpected token '<', "<!DOCTYPE "... is not valid JSON
Solution
Manual upload fails for one of three reasons: an outdated NetSuite session or browser cache, missing permissions on a custom role, or a sandbox that needs extra setup after a bundle update. Find the scenario that matches your situation and follow the steps below.
How to resolve the JSON error
- Log out of NetSuite.
- Clear your browser cache and cookies:
- Chrome: Go to Settings > Privacy and security > Clear browsing data.
- Edge: Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data.
- Safari: Go to Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data > Remove All.
- Log back in to NetSuite.
- Retry the manual upload.
How to resolve manual upload failing for a custom role
Follow the steps in Roles and Permissions, in the section Allow custom roles to upload the Bill manually.
How to resolve manual upload failing in a sandbox after a bundle update
Follow the steps in Set up sandbox account after refresh from production.
Why this happens
The JSON error means ZoneCapture received a web page instead of the data it expected. An expired NetSuite session or outdated cached files in your browser typically cause this. Logging out and clearing your cache forces a fresh session.
